On May 16, 2025, EmiControls hosted a symposium entitled “Innovative Firefighting Technology – Water Mist in Practical Use” at the Safety Park Bozen. Numerous experts, firefighters, and technology enthusiasts took advantage of the opportunity to learn about the latest innovations and practical applications of water mist and turbine technologies.

Technology, practical experience, and perspectives

The bilingual program—Italian in the morning and German in the afternoon—was aimed at a broad audience of experts from South Tyrol and the surrounding area and promoted professional exchange across language barriers.

The conference was opened by Bettina McDowell, CEO of the International Water Mist Association (IWMA), with an informative presentation on the functioning, advantages, and future developments of water mist technology.

Florian Alber, commander of the Bolzano Fire Department, then gave a practical report on his experiences with firefighting and hazardous materials using water mist.

Another key topic was the replacement of fluorinated foam agents. Stefano Rotti from Raffineria di Milazzo presented the ecological advantages and operational challenges of this changeover.

Francesco Fritz, deputy managing director of EmiControls, explained the combination of water mist technology with modern firefighting turbines and highlighted technical details of possible application scenarios.

Experience innovation: demonstration of water mist turbines

A special highlight was the subsequent live demonstration in the outdoor area of the Safety Park: Together with the Bolzano professional fire department, Dominik Cantonati from EmiControls presented the Magirus AirCore TAF35-C extinguishing robot and a mobile water mist turbine on a fire truck in action. This gave participants the opportunity to see the technology presented in action at the end of the event.

We would like to express our sincere thanks to the Bolzano Safety Park for providing the event venue. We would also like to thank all contributors, speakers, partners, and guests for their contribution to the success of the conference — and we look forward to further joint events in the future.
